In idle moments, I compile three lists:
1. Words I hate
2. Five-syllable words
3. Band names
It goes without saying that the first list is something that all normal people compile. It's a mine field of poor taste and unpleasant noises out there, and one must strive not to offend.
The second list is something for which I have my Grade Four teacher, Ms. Bolin, to thank. In detention one afternoon, you could leave as soon as you wrote down 25 5-syllable words. I expect Joey G. is probably still hunched over a desk at St Thomas Aquinas Elementary--he couldn't figure out why Ms B wouldn't accept "encyclopedia." And on to another one of those synaptic accidents that is human memory: a Portuguese school friend used to do whatever she could to make her mother say "encyclopedia" in front of us, because she pronounced it "en-sigh-CLOP-ah-die-ah." For some reason, this seemed like the most hilarious thing we had ever heard, which is saying a lot because we were all regular viewers of "The Banana Bunch." Anyhow, whenever I have nothing else to think about, and sometimes when I have many other things to think about, what I wind up thinking about is five-syllable words. Pentasyllabic words, that is.
Note on the third list: If anyone (with the obvious exception of fans of "The Screaming Blood Farts") has ever come up with a better band name than "The Smokin' Lutherans," then I want to hear about it.
Note on yesterday's post: Dare ya to Google "midget triplets." It's a great big world out there, ain't it?

I KNOW I've told you two great band names that I saw on posters in Edmonton and Calgary:
(1) British Teeth
(2) Steve McGarrett's Hair
but my favourite is still my old roommate Lori's all-girl punk band, The Strangeloves.
Hane
But did you Google "midget triplets"? They appear to be a cultural phenom. No wonder they were lying low in Trochu.
Hey Vinny. Thanks for commiserating with me about the immigration process. Com-mis-er-at-ing. "Commiseration." Yep, I'm starting my own list!
