Beware the Leprechauns
The little round-headed kid and I are home alone today, me on the big purple couch with my shattered knee, him on his wee Spiderman couch. He's watching one of the scariest Looney Tunes ever--the one where Porky Pig, who doesn't wear pants, ever, which is completely revolting, but anyhow, where Porky Pig wanders into the castle of the leprechauns and winds up in cursed green shoes that force him to do a frantic jig. When I first saw this as a child, it gave me the shakes for about three weeks. I'm watching the round-headed kid for signs of fright, but so far he's pretty much obsessed only with Porky's bare bottom and the potential for toilet-related hijinx that this might make possible. And, weirdly, this small horror was released on the very same day (July 28, 1951) as Disney's "Alice in Wonderland," also the stuff of kiddy horror.
