Luke and I sat up until 2 in the morning, bonding over the hand-made creation of our son's birthday confections. Bonding, as you know, is shorthand for "bunchy bickering about frosting." We downloaded a Batman logo from the web, printed it, cut it out, traced it on the cake in transparent goo material, then filled it in painstakingly with homemade butter cream icing that had been dyed JUST the right shade of bat-blue:
Perfect!
Except that the little round-headed kid had no idea what it was. The Abomination? The Devil? Um. . . Thor? Thor?!?!?!
He had no trouble with Cake #2, which got right to the point:
However, he was somewhat confused about the mint green icing and what on earth that might have to do with Catwoman. Does she have green blood, he asked, hopefully?
