24

A few things have changed since I was 20. I no longer have a green cord bomber jacket, for example, and no bib-front gabardine dresses with school-marm ribbon ties. I no longer have a summer home on a mountain lake. I have chocolate-brown lowlights. I have voted. I have thrown up on Sunset Boulevard. I narrowly missed being bombed in London by the IRA. I have had three other near-death experiences. I lost four teeth. I became ridiculously overeducated. I ate abalone. I broke the speed limit on a lonely California highway in the middle of the night by some 55 mph in an ancient Honda. I watched my infant son nearly drown. I've discovered that I have a gift for lactation.

But I have always loved Neil Finn.

And, as of last night, I realize that this makes me part of the "middle-aged women in boots" demographic.
